Walks ending at Brinscall 23rd May 2026
The A walk will be led by Mary and Dawn and is approximately 12 miles and 1600 feet.
Our walk begins on the outskirts of Abbey Village. After a pleasant amble past the Roddlesworth Reservoirs and through woodland, we’ll reach the ruins of Hollinshead Hall. A steady climb will take us to a footpath down to New Barn before climbing again to Darwen Tower. After that, we’ll cross Darwen Moor before we begin the ascent up Great Hill. Descending on a good moorland path, we will arrive in Brinscall.
The B walk will be led by David and is approximately 8.5 miles and 1000 feet.
Starting in Abbey village we walk through woods along the south shore of the 3 Roddlesworth Reservoirs and gently climb up to the ruins of Hollingsworth Hall alongside the Roddlesworth river. Proceeding south, we then turn west towards Great Hill. After a short climb, the second half of the walk is a long descent to White Coppice followed by an easy walk into Brinscall alongside a brook.
The C walk will be led by Tony and is 6.75 miles and 485 feet ascent/508 feet descent.
The walk starts in Brinscall and proceeds along field paths to Tootals Farm and then on to the picturesque cricket ground at White Coppice. From there on to Anglezarke Reservoir and returning back to Brinscall via the Goit.
