Walks ending at Broughton in Furness 18th July 2026
The A walk will be led by Andy and is approximately 11 miles and 2200 feet.
The walk begins in Broughton in Furness and heads north across fields and tracks with lovely views to the tiny village of Broughton Mills. From here the walk changes with a steep ascent of The Knott (probably about 500 feet of climb). The views from the top, however, are well worth the effort and the walk continues over a craggy ridge before taking a gradual path down to the head of Dunnerdale. At this point we turn around and begin to head south to summit the striking Stickle Pike (1234 feet) and then Great Stickle (1001 feet). From here it is a walk back to Broughton Mills where we traverse some fields and take a shady path to reach an old disused train track that takes us straight back into Broughton. Although there is not a great amount of ascent for an A-walk, there are some steep bits!
The B walk will be led by Lesley and is just over 9 miles and 1194 feet ascent/1196 feet descent.
This is a circular route from Broughton - going up Eccle Riggs; Across to Boothwaite Nook and Back Lane onto Wall End across Middlesceugh to Thornthwaite Latter Rigg and Woodland Hall and going out to Woodland Fell and then return by Woodland, Buttstead Wood where we have fun going through a jungle of ferns and walk back into Broughton on the old railway bed!
The C walk will be led by Maria and is approximately 7 miles and 2 short inclines, negligible height and a few stiles.
Delightful circular stroll in an unspoilt part of Furness Peninsula.
Starting from the old Georgian town of Broughton in Furness we will go along the track bed of a disused railway line, then via old walled track and woodland up to Wallenrigg Farm going across minor road and take farm track down to the hamlet of Broughton Mills in the Lickle valley. (Possible lunch break). Proceed on field paths across the pastures to Croglinhust and the bridge over the river Lickle, quiet lane to Lower Beansley then footpath over the meadows and on to Manor Farm, cross the A593 into Broughton Tower park and through to Broughton. .
