Pen-y-Ghent and Moughton Scar. Morecambe HF Rambling

The A walk will be led by Graham. It is approximately 11 miles and 1400 feet.

We start just past Austwick, from the B6480 into Settle. Ten minutes of lane walking is followed by a couple of fields into Feizor. We then head for Smearsett Scar with great views. Dropping down to Wood Lane and coming to a small lane,100mtrs right climbing steadily up to the top of dry rig quarry, A short steep climb brings us onto Moughton scar. For approximately 2 miles we follow sheep tracks (good going) to the trig point. Picking up a path to the head of Crummack Dale we turn down into this beautiful and lonely dale, following good tracks to Nappa Scars. Then along Thwaite Lane back into Clapham.

The B walk will be led by Ian. It is approximately 8.2 miles and 1200 feet.

Starting at Austwick we cross fields to reach the famous "erratics" at Norber (left at the end of the ice age). We continue our ascent to the top of the Fells with views of Pen-y-Ghent, Moughton Scars and Whernside. At Sulber Gate we begin our descent into Crummack Dale, past the farm and down to Thwaite Lane which we follow into Clapham.

The C walk will be led by Tony. It is approximately 6 ¾ miles and 800 feet.

Starting in Austwick we walk down Wood Lane to cross a field and pick up the Bridle path to Feizor. From Feizor we climb to highest point of the walk at Wharfe Wood with great views of Pen y Ghent. We descend on field paths to Jop Ridding and then on to Wood Lane and more fields to the Austwick to Wharfe road, to meet Thwaite Lane and on to Clapham, passing through the tunnel at Ingleborough Hall.
