Walks ending at Coniston 22nd June 2024

Coniston B Walk. Morecambe HF Rambling

Glynis is leading the A walk. It is approximately 9.5 Miles and 2800ft including Wetherlam.

Starting in Coniston we will set off along the path towards Miners Bridge and carry on the path past some old mine workings and quarries up to Low Water.  We will then continue to the top of the Old Man and then to Brim Fell and Swirl Howe before descending the rocky Prison Band to the top of Swirl Hause.  If time allows, we will climb Wetherlam to enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding fells, and then return to Swirl Hause and back down to Coniston via Levers Water. There are three Wainwrights or four if we do Wetherlam.

Bob is leading the B walk. It is approximately 8 miles and 1700 ft.

From Skelwith Bridge we take pleasant tracks along Little Langdale, past Colwyth and Stang End towards Greenburn. Then left uphill on a grassy path, passing Hawk Rigg, Blake Rigg and Dry Cove Bottom (a rather damp area despite its name) enclosed by the lonely eastern flanks of Wetherlam. Then we pass the top of wooded Tilberthwaite Gill, one of the loveliest corners of the Lake District, and end on the path over Hole Rake down to Miners Bridge and Coniston.

Jeff is leading the C walk. It is approximately 6½ miles and undulating.

Starting in Coniston and moving on to Cats Bank, then a good track with views over to the Furness side of the lake and onto Spoon Hall where we pick up the path leading over Bleathwaite pasture with views of the Old Man, Dow Crag and the Seathwaite fells before descending down to High Ground and Little Arrow. Crossing the A593 we go down to Brackenbarrow Farm until reaching the Cumbria Way at the Ferry pier. Return to Coniston alongside the lake passing Coniston Old Hall and Cats Bank.
