Walks ending at Coniston 16th August 2025

The A Walk will be led by Glynis and is approximately 12 miles and 1700 feet of ascent, mostly undulating.

We will start at Spark Bridge taking farm paths, through woods and over moorland. We will climb Top O'Selside which features in Wainwrights Outlying Fells and then enter Grizedale Forest. We walk along a track until we branch off to go past Lawson Park and Brantwood where Ruskin lived. We then take the path alongside the road which takes us into Coniston.

The B walk will be led by John and is approximately 7 miles and 1600 – 1700 feet.

From Torver to Goats Water and Coniston.

The route starts from the Wilsons Arms Pub in Torver and continues in a northerly direction with a steady climb passing through a disused quarry and crossing Torver Beck and up to Walna Scar path. From here the route is north west onto the path which ascends through the deep valley of the Cove (in a couple of places the path terrain requires the use of hands to assist), eventually arriving at the mountain tarn of Goats Water nestled between Coniston Old Man and Dow Crag. The highest point is 1678 feet.

We then turn south to retrace our steps back to Walna Scar path, and then eastwards to Heathwaite farm. We continue north of the farm to join the small road steeply descending into Coniston.

The C walk will be led by Jeff and is approximately 6 miles and 350 – 400 feet.

Starting in Coniston with a short walk along the A593, we turn right with a short uphill climb passing Coppermines and Lake Cottages to reach Station Road and the dismantled railway line with lovely views over the east side of the lake. Continuing on along good track we reach Park Gate. Taking care, we cross the A593 and walk along the road for 150yds. Accessing farm land and Park Coppices we continue on our way to Little Arrow where we again join the old railway line before turning in an easterly direction passing Brackenbarrow farm, Torver Park woods till we reach the Ferry terminal and the Cumbria Way. Continue alongside the lake we pass Coniston Old Hall and Bowmansteads and then a short walk back into the village. It is good terrain with step style.
