Walks ending at Dent 28th February 2026

The A walk will be led by Andy and is approximately 8.5 miles and 2300 feet.

The walk begins in the village of Barbon and soon follows Barbon beck via an upper gorge path through the beginnings of Barbondale to Blindbeck Bridge. Here the nature of the walk changes dramatically with a steep 800 feet ascent up to a ridge (at about 1476 feet) which marks the beginning of Middleton Fell. Please note this climb will take about 60 minutes and can only be realistically undertaken by the fittest A walkers. From here, we traverse the eastern side of Middleton Fell crossing Castle Knott (1750 feet) and Calf Top (2000 feet) before dropping down to Combe Top. The terrain is generally grassy and may be boggy in places. Soon after this point, we drop off Middleton Fell, crossing over some rough ground with very little sign of a path to reach the north-eastern reaches of Barbondale. From here it is a 2 mile walk via Green Lane and alongside Flinter Gill into Dent.

The B walk will be led by Glynis and is approximately 9.5 miles and 1000 feet.

The walk is a circular from Dent and will start with a nice easy walk along the River Dee as far as Ellers Bridge.  We will then leave the river and go across fields to join the Dales Way, turning right towards High Side and High Hollins then getting onto the path over Frostrow and Long Moor to join the Dales High Way before coming down through farmland into Dent. The 1000 ft is spread fairly evenly over the walk with no steep climbs but rather a lot of stiles.

The C walk will be led by Maria and is approximately 6.9 miles and 700 feet.

We start in Sedbergh and go down to New Bridge and along the Rawthey riverbank to Milthrop Bridge, through the hamlet of Milthrop and a short ascent uphill to join the Dalesway path leading us round to Dentdale. On reaching Gap Wood we then take field paths to Cragg Farm then a short road stretch to Mire House, then over a field to join the river Dee embankment and follow upstream to Church Bridge and lane up to Dent town.
