Walks ending at Elterwater 11th May 2025
Glynis is leading the A walk which is approximately 11 miles and 1650 feet.
The A walk is a circular from Elterwater, setting off towards Little Langdale and visiting Cathedral Cave where we will spend some time and have our first break. From there we will proceed towards High Tilberthwaite and will turn off to walk round Holme Fell. We will then go past the lovely waterfalls at Tom Gill, along Tarn Hows and through Iron Keld Plantation to climb Black Crag then return to Elterwater via The Cumbria Way.
The B walk will be led by Lesley and is approximately 9 - 10 miles and 1600 feet.
Also a circular from Elterwater village, we go up to Elterwater Hall & through Sawrey's Wood following the Cumbria Way into and around the Great Langdale Valley and down towards Dungeon Ghyll. Hopefully we will see a haze of blue on the sides of the fell. We go up the valley towards Side Pike but not climbing it and over to Blea Tarn and onto Blea Moss from where we turn to go into Little Langdale and onto Slater Bridge (if time allows, we will go into the Cathedral Cave). Then up to High Birk Howe and Dale End before we eventually go down through Sawrey's Wood and onto the quarries passing Yew Crags and on into Elterwater.
The C walk will be led by Dom and is approximately 6.5 miles and 900 feet.
We will leave the village on the Cumbria Way towards Skelwith Bridge. Leaving Skelwith Force, we head for Colwith and another waterfall. Heading towards Slater's Bridge via a visit to the spectacular Cathedral Cave. The main ascent awaits as we climb out of Little Langdale to Dale End continuing back to Elterwater.
