Walks ending at Grasmere 1st January 2025
The A walk will be led by Andy and is approximately 9 -10 miles and 1750 feet.
The walk begins in Grasmere and follows the coast to coast path to Far Easedale from where we will skirt round the eastern flanks of Tarn Crag to reach Easedale Tarn. We then ascend to Blea Rigg and follow the undulating ridge past the tops of Great and Little Castle How to reach Silver How. We make our descent to Grasmere by crossing Wray Gill and passing Allan Bank
Laureen is leading the B walk and is approximately 7- 8 miles and 1700 feet.
Beginning from Scandale Bridge we make for Rydal Hall. There are 3 interesting features on this walk. The first is the grounds of Rydal Park. The second is an exploration of the waterfalls up Rydal Beck to Buckstone’s Jump – which as a club we rarely visit. The last is Alcock Tarn which we access from the Coffin route.
David is leading a D / C walk and is 4 – 5 ½ miles and 200 – 500 feet.
Also starting at Scandale Bridge, we walk up to Rydal Hall. There is a 'D' option to remain there enjoying the grounds while the 'C' walk heads uphill, 350 feet ascent alongside the waterfalls of Rydal Beck towards Buckstone's Jump. Heading back to Rydal Hall we will call into the cafe (which is open on NYD). The 2nd half of the walk will be alongside Rydal Water and Grasmere. This is a delightful and scenic walk with several easier options.
