Walks ending at Grasmere 5th July 2026

The A walk will be led by Andy and is approximately 11-12 miles and 3200 feet.

This walk takes in the best part of the Fairfield Horseshoe with seven Wainwrights to bag. It starts in Ambleside progressing to Low Sweden Bridge from where we start our ascent to Low Pike. Although not appearing daunting it is quite arduous and it doesn’t get much better with our next objective - High Pike. But, at this point the walk flattens out somewhat and is followed by Dove Crag, Hart Crag and the grassy expanse of Fairfield (2864 feet) with its dramatic views of the Helvellyn edges and St Sunday’s Crag. Here we begin our route back by taking in Great Rigg and then Stone Arthur. Sadly, there is a stony pitched path much of the way to Grasmere following the airy top of Arthur’s seat which will test your knees.

 

The B walk will be led by Bob and is approximately 8 miles and 1500 feet.

From White Moss Common, we ascend in easy stages via Loughrigg Terrace, High Close and Dow Bank to the top of Meg's Gill, with good views N and S. We then follow the rather featureless and undulating high ground between Langdale L and Easedale R, passing Lang Howe Tarn, Swinescar Pike, Little Castle Howe and Great Castle Howe. On this section, I find it difficult to follow exactly the same path twice! Just before the cliffs of Blea Rigg we descend a thin but improving path down to Easedale Tarn and the good path past the waterfalls into Grasmere.

 

The C walk will be led by Lesley and is approximately 7 miles and 882 feet ascent and 895 feet descent.

A change from the planned title due to some tricky parts on the path and the height!  Instead a circular from Grasmere!! Where we are going across fields from the car park to A591 up to Forest side and Hollens Farm to Town End; Up to Good Close and then pick up the Coffin Route through to Rydal. Going down to the A591 and then following undulating paths along to Rydal and Grasmere into Grasmere village with possible diversion to Rydal Cave! Fingers crossed for a good day and some beautiful views!
