Walks ending at Horton in Ribblesdale 14th September 2024

The A walk will be led by Bob and is 13 miles and 1800 feet.

It is a circuit of Pen-y-Ghent and Plover Hill, staying for a large part on good tracks and paths between the 1100 and 1600 ft contours, and visits a lovely corner of Upper Wharfedale. We start from Horton on the "tourist" track to Pen-y-Ghent, but near Hull Pot continue ahead on the gentle ascent to Foxup Moor and cross the watershed into Wharfedale. Passing just above the hamlet of Foxup, we round the flanks of Plover Hill, with views down Littondale, then take a path up the limestone valley of Pen-y-Ghent Gill. At Blishmire we join a short stretch of road, then the Pennine Way, then tracks down to Dub Cote and lanes into Horton.

The B walk will be led by Ian and is approximately 9 miles and 1400 feet.

We begin at Stainforth, with a brief visit to the falls. Then we make for Feizor (with a brief visit to the cafe - for a drink on the move, and toilets). We move on to the outskirts of Austwick, and climb up to Norber Erratics and the highest point of the fells above Moughton Scar. From there we descend to Suber gate and in to Horton via the station.

David is leading Ray's C walk. It will be approximately 6 ½ miles and 500 feet.

We start in Settle, following the Ribble river to Stainforth where we will enjoy the falls. We then do a 300 feet gradual climb up on to the fells before dropping down to Helwith Bridge. The last section returns to following the Ribble into the top end of the village of Horton.
