Walks ending at Ings 4th February 2024
The walks begin in Staveley, around the Kentmere valley and finish in Ings. Ings has a Farm shop and cafe where the coach will collect us and the Watermill Inn, home to the Windermere brewery.
The A walk will be led by Ali. Approximately 11 miles and 1600 ft.
The walk begins in Staveley and we cross the river passing Scroggs Farm and Elf Howe to pick up a nice track going north. We follow this for about 2 miles, gradually ascending, to cross Staveley Head Fell and Birk Rigg where we will see Sour Howes and Sallows on our left. The walk then heads towards Kentmere where will have great views of the Kentmere Valley and Kentmere Horseshoe. After passing through Kentmere, we ascend the other side of the valley to Whiteside End. At the crossing we will then descend gradually to Ulthwaite Bridge with views of the
Kentmere valley. A short ascent from Browfoot passing below Williamson’s Monument takes us into Ings.

The B walk will be led by Lesley. Approximately 8 miles and 1200ft or 1400ft.
Starting in Staveley we will walk up Reston Scar & Hugill Head. This headland is distinctly attractive from the road to Windermere, and of course we will have views of the farmlands south to the Kent and Lyth valleys. From there we go around to Black Crag where we will have views towards Kentmere. The second half of the walk to Ings will either be along the Dales way or over to High Borrans and Grassgarth.
The C walk will be led by Bob. Approximately 5.5 miles and 650 ft.
We walk mostly on easy lanes and tracks. We start in Staveley, passing Hawkshead Brewery, crossing the river and following the Kentmere valley northwards, via Scroggs Farm, Scroggs Bridge and the quiet lane to Browfoot. We then take a footpath uphill and make a short detour to visit High Knott (Williamson's Monument, 901 ft) with lovely views all round, particularly up the valley towards Kentmere. We then join easy tracks to Grassgarth, then the quiet lane to Ings.
