We start near Mirehouse on the E side of Bassenthwaite Lake with a gentle ascent N on a forest track before turning back S and gaining the main ridge, which is nowhere very steep, passing over The Edge, Ullock Pike and Longside Edge to the grassy platform of Carl Side. There are excellent views S over Derwentwater and E towards Skiddaw over the secluded valley of Southerndale. We then descend on a good path, passing White Stones and Doups to the hamlet of Millbeck, then follow quiet field paths to Applethwaite and Keswick.
The C walk (with a 4 ½ mile 'D' option) will be led by Phil and is approximately 6 miles and 600 feet. There are no stiles.
Starting at Booths we go through Fitz Park and onto the railway path before turning onto the Brundhome road uphill into Brundhome Woods where lunch will be. It goes through the woods to the Cumbria way then Spooner Lane and up past the Pheasant Inn to a woodlined path leading to Crossthwaite Church. Then we head towards Portinscale where we turn back into Keswick passing Booths and the Rugby Club into Crow Park and on to the lake. Finally we enter Cockshott wood for a circular woodland walk back to the park and end of walk.
