Walks ending at Malham 7th July 2024

The A walk will be led by Alan. Approximately 12 miles and 2000 feet.

Starting at Long Preston, we climb Edge Lane with nice views of Ribblesdale and Pendle Hill. Lambert Lane delivers us into typical Yorkshire Dales limestone country. A detour to Scaleber Force, then the Dales High Road, past Kirkby Fell to the restored Nappa Cross, Pennine Bridleway over Dean Moor Hill towards Malham Tarn. The Pennine Way takes us back to Malham Cove via Ing Scar and High Barn with its great view of Malham Cove.  Back into the village along Long Lane. There are good tracks throughout this walk.

The B walk will be led by Frank. Approximately 9 ½ miles and 750 feet.

The walk starts in Gargrave and takes us through a number of picturesque villages running up the valley. From Gargrave the route follows the Pennine Way with a short road walk and then over pasture to Eshton Moor, Newfield Bridge. We visit the villages of Airton, Hanlith and Malham following the river Aire. Then on to Malham Cove; a large curved limestone formation 1 mile north of the village of Malham. It was formed by a waterfall carrying meltwater from glaciers and is an awesome place to visit. From the cove we then return to Malham.

The C walk will be led by David. Approximately 5 miles and 500 feet.

This is a shorter walk than usual so that we can savour the delights of the Malham area. Bring your camera. Starting in Malham (toilet stop) we amble up to the 'Janet's Foss' waterfall and pool. If you want a dip, bring a towel! Then on to Gordale Scar where we will watch others climbing up the waterfall and think they are mad! A visit to the mobile tea shop for ice cream/ refreshments gets us ready for the 400 ft climb on grassy tracks to the plateau above Malham. The limestone pavement is next (most of which can be avoided if necessary) with the amazing view from above Malham Cove. We then descend via steps to marvel at Malham Cove from below before returning to the village.
