Walks ending at Settle 19th July 2025
Bob is leading the A walk which is approximately 13 miles and 1900 ft.
Fountains Fell (2191 ft) lies between Pen-y-Ghent and Malham and has excellent views, but is visited much less than either. We start at Helwith Bridge with 3 miles of easy walking along lanes and tracks. We join the Pennine Way briefly for the ascent of Fountains Fell, but part company near the summit and follow a thin path going south 3 miles along the ridge, past Fountains Fell Tarn and close to the line of a broken wall. There are excellent views of the "Three Peaks", plus Great Whernside over Wharfedale, and Malham Tarn below us. We descend to Henside Road, and by Capon Hall follow a field path to join the Pennine Bridleway for the last 3 miles past Jubilee Cave and into Settle.
Dom is leading the B walk which is approximately 8 ½ miles and 1300ft.
Starting in Clapham we will take the good bridleway from Clapham towards Austwick, passing just south of Norber. From Feizor we continue our Pennine Journey before veering slightly south to follow Giggleswick Scar, with views out towards Pendle Hill. We will pass Giggleswick Quarry and make our way to Stackhouse and then on to Settle.
Ray and Tony are leading the C walk which is approximately 7 miles and 500 feet.
The C walk is a circular from Settle, following the Ribble Way to Stainforth Force and then on to Stainforth. From there we follow field paths to Hoffman's kiln and then on to Langcliffe. We return to Settle on an easy road.
