Walks ending at Ulverston 9th November 2024

Ulverston The Hoad. Morecambe HF Rambling

The A walk will be led by Claire and will be approximately 10 miles and 2000 ft.

Starting at Lane Head on the A5092 we take paths to Beck Bottom and then on to the highest point of Lowick Beacon. On to Knapperthaw where we briefly pick up the Cumbria Way before climbing to Parkgate and on to Lowick High Common. There is a long section along the ridge past Cocklakes and Shooting House Hill and then down to Peppers Wood. Quiet lanes take us to Pennington Reservoir and then ascend past Copse Hill. Our descent into Ulverston takes us past Ross side and along the Cumbria Way.

 

The B walk will be led by Roger and will be approximately 8 ½ miles and 1200 ft.

Starting along Ghyll path we take the north path up to the Hoad monument where there are stunning views of the surrounding area. Then we go down to Newlands Bottom and a short road walk to Mansriggs, then on to Broughton Beck. From there we turn south passing Osmotherley St John's church to Hollowmire, Higher Lath, Old Hall farm and back to Ulverston along the Cumbria Way. There are 8 stiles. It is to be expected that it will be wet and muddy in places. Care will we needed as we walk through 4 working farms during the day.

 

The C walk will be led by John & Linda and will be approximately 6 ½ miles and 500 ft.

Starting from Kings Street we take the Cumbria Way following Dragley Beck to Old Hall Road, where we cross here to the fields which skirt Flan Hill. Then we walk through Out Rake Plantation and gradually ascend up the back of Hoad Hill, enjoying its 360-degree views over Ulverston, Morecambe Bay & the Lakeland Fells. Retracing our steps we continue via St Mary’s Mount to the A590 crossing at the traffic lights, then walking North East to Canal Head. From here the walk is flat and easy with even paths and lots of wildlife. The Canal is 1.25 miles long ending at Canal Foot with views over Morecambe Bay. We make our way back into Ulverston via The Ropewalk.    1 sturdy stile.
