Walks ending at Witherslack 16th February 2025
Glynis is leading the A walk. It is approximately 10 miles and 1400 feet.
The A Walk is a circular starting at the Derby Arms. We go first of all through the Latterbarrow Nature Reserve then through the woods and onto Yewbarrow. From there we continue to Witherslack Hall Farm then woods and tracks to Bell Rake which is quite a steep stony climb up to the highest point of the scar and Lord's Seat. We will then walk the ridge of the scar and descend to Mill Side through more woodlands. We finish with a short road walk through Witherslack village and return to the Derby Arms.
David is leading the B walk. It is approximately 8 – 8 ½ miles and 1400 feet.
Starting from near Raven's Lodge, we climb to the viewpoint above Buckhouse Wood and then to Whitbarrow Scar (total climb of 900 feet). Following the ridge for 3 miles we descend at Bell Rake and walk to Witherslack Hall. The return is via the fells of Yewbarrow and woods of Latterbarrow.
Roger is leading the C walk. It is approximately 6 ½ miles and 650 feet.
Starting from near Raven's Lodge, close to the A590, we walk along paths and lanes, many of them wooded, passing Beck Head, Witherslack Hall (school), up and along Yewbarrow and then down to the finish at the Derby Arms Witherslack close to the main road.
