Walks ending at Chapel Stile 17th March 2024
We are going right into the central Lakes area. As Winter is drawing to a close, it is good to be back into the Lake District. As I write there is snow on the highest Fell tops. Let's hope it will not have thawed by next weekend, so that the white can add to the beauty we expect to see.
The A walk will be led by Bob. Approximately 9 miles and 2000 feet.
Lingmoor Fell is delightful but, being a little lower, it is not so often walked as the surrounding giants - the Langdale Pikes, Bow Fell, Crinkle Crags and Wetherlam. We start up the wooded slopes by Elterwater quarry, but are soon in the open with excellent views, and follow easy paths to the ridge and the summit of Lingmoor. Down to Side Pike with its famous "squeeze" and perhaps the best view of the Langdale Pikes to be found anywhere. We return via Blea Tarn, the southern slopes of Lingmoor, and Elterwater.

The B walk will be led by Lesley. Approximately 8 miles and 1800 feet.
From Skelwith Bridge to Chapel Stile via Black Crag.
From Skelwith Bridge we follow the river with its waterfalls through to Low Colwith & passing through Tongue Plantation on up to Hollin Bank, High Arnside & then climb up to Black Crag. The descent is via Iron Keld plantation and onto the Cumbria Way, High Park & Hacket through to Sawrey's Wood & finally onto Chapel Stile.
The C walk will be led by Frank. Approximately 6.7 miles and 600 feet.
Starting in Chapel Stile we follow the track to Thrang farm and New Bridge. Then Baysbrown Farm with superb views back to the Langdale Fells. Through Baysbrown Wood, Yew Crags to Langdale Beck Weir. We follow the river along a good track to Elterwater and join the Cumbria way to Skelwith Force waterfall. We cross the bridge and follow the track to Park House, Park Farm and then to Low Colwith.
We then follow the road back to Eltermere and track to Chapel Stile Wainwright Inn.
Please ask in advance for ideas for a 4 mile D walk.
