Walks ending at Silverdale 30th March 2024

All 3 walks will enjoy this view from Silverdale, known as 'The Lots'.

All 3 recces took note that some paths may be slippy; so, it is worth bringing sticks. And we must take care along the roads which are busy and narrow.

The Lots Silverdale

The A walk will be led by Andy and David. Approximately 11 miles and 1000 ft.

Such a variety of paths, and 3 of the viewpoints are likely to be new to you. Also, we shall visit the site of a (well hidden) cave used in prehistoric times. Starting in Milnthorpe we go to the Deer Park, Kent Estuary, Haverbrack and Storth woods, Hazelslack Tower, Teddy Heights nature reserve, Kent Estuary again, Arnside Station, Dobsall Wood, and up to Arnside Knott. At this point we will drop down to the coastal path at New Barns Bay and follow the coast round to Far Arnside, through Holgates Holiday Park and across 'The Lots' (see photo) finishing up at the Silverdale Hotel.

The B walk will be led by Helen and Kath. Approximately 8.5 miles and 900ft, undulating.

The walk will start at Eaves Wood Car Park and go to Arnside Tower. Look out for roe deer. Then towards Arnside Knott, but dropping down to Far Arnside Caravan Park. Then to New Barns Bay, Grubbin’s Wood Nature Reserve, the Sailing Club, Kent Estuary and Arnside. At the Albion Pub we turn back to Silverdale, skirting the other side of the Knott, retracing our steps to Arnside Tower, taking a different path through Holgates, along the road to the Cove, 'The Lots' (photo above) and back into Silverdale.

The C walk will be led by Jeff. Approximately 6 miles and 750 feet, undulating.

Starting in Silverdale, we cross 'The Lots' (photo above) to the Cove and on to Far Arnside Caravan Park where we should see a fantastic display of daffodils. Then onto Far Arnside woods reaching New Barns with lovely views over the Kent Estuary. We return to Silverdale through Copridding woods, skirting Arnside Knott to Arnside Tower, through Middlebarrow wood, Eaves wood and Potter Hill.

If you would like a D walk from Arnside to Silverdale via New Barns cafe, please ask in advance.
